Relax. Even though you've got an older home, you do not have to resign yourself to getting by without the comforts of central aircon. A state-of-the-art technology called high-velocity air-conditioning can be added to virtually any home-even those without existing ductwork.

How It Operates

Also known as “mini-duct” systems, high-velocity air-con sometimes uses an out of doors compressor to cool down the air, mixed with a high-pressure blower (generally mounted in the attic).

Instead of hulking metal ductwork, this technology, developed by SpacePak, uses flexible tubing just two inches across. The insulated tubes can be threaded behind walls or within closets without damaging sheetrock or plaster. This makes the system much quieter than air-con through traditional metal ductwork.

A mini-duct system also dehumidifies the air more successfully. The hi-pressure blower compresses the air and allows it to be in contact with the cooling coils longer-which decreases the temperature and removes more humidity.

It’s All Central

Actually , “high-velocity” and mini-duct” systems are just different names for a similar sort of super-efficient and comfy central air-conditioning systems. These systems are extraordinarily quiet, assign the cool air uniformly all though your house and dehumidify very effectively.

The words “high velocity” and “pressure” could make you think these systems are loud. In actual fact you can hardly hear them running and there is no air circulation sound at the miniscule outlets.

In two-story houses, the mini-ducts are run down from the attic thru the corners of the closets or within walls to the first floor. In a single-story house, the whole system is found in the loft with outlets in the ceiling below.

SpacePak’s mini-duct systems use standard, high-efficiency, outdoor air-con compressor units. With this mini-duct system, cool air blows out from little two-inch openings in the ceiling or high on the walls. You can barely spot the outlets when they are painted the exact same color as the room. For an ornamental look, natural wood outlets are available.
